WHAT IS A SLAB ON GRADE FOUNDATION?

IS SLAB ON GRADE GOOD FOR COASTAL MISSISSIPPI?
Slab on grade foundations are excellent for Coastal Mississippi properties located outside of high-risk velocity flood zones (V-zones) and immediate storm surge paths. For inland areas or higher-elevation lots along the Gulf Coast, a slab on grade provides an incredibly sturdy, pest-resistant, and low-maintenance base that holds up beautifully against regional humidity and soil shifts.
HOW THICK IS A CONCRETE SLAB FOUNDATION?
For a standard residential home or addition, the main interior floor of the concrete slab is typically 4 inches thick. However, the edges of the slab—known as the perimeter footings or beams—are dug much deeper and poured thicker (often 12 to 24 inches wide and deep) and heavily reinforced with rebar to properly distribute the weight of the structure.
HOW LONG DOES A SLAB FOUNDATION TAKE TO CURE?
While concrete typically achieves about 70% of its full structural design strength within the first 7 days, it takes a full 28 days to fully cure and reach its maximum load-bearing potential. Framing on top of the slab can usually begin after a few days of initial curing, but we monitor the moisture levels closely to ensure the foundation is completely stable before heavy materials are added.
